We launched Enriched Animals on World Animal Day (October 4), which is a day of action to elevate the status of animals and improve their welfare standards globally. We chose this day because it closely aligns with our ethos to prioritise and defend the behavioural needs, preferences and positive emotional states of companion animals.

"Animal welfare is central to everything that we do."

We are a small team of experts, animal lovers and creatives that want to make a positive difference in the lives of companion animals in New Zealand. Enriched Animals was born out of a recognition that there are so few options available for animal enrichment. While pet supply stores are typically filled with hundreds of options, so many of these options are not animal-centred. In other words, they have not been designed around making an animal’s welfare the highest priority. At Enriched Animals, we have carefully-curated options that can support the health and welfare needs of small companion animals through a variety of positive, species-specific experiences. Animal welfare is central to everything that we do. 

As a part of this initiative, we created the Enriched Home™ collection. A true labour of love, we poured our hearts and knowledge into creating a range that offers purpose-built opportunities for companion animals to express natural, species-specific behaviour, while reducing stress and enriching their home environment. From design to implementation, an important aspect for our team was to ensure that the Enriched Home™ collection is inclusive of senior companion animals and those with limited mobility.

With starting any new initiative, there is inevitable risk – but when we weigh up what is really important at the heart of what we do, there is no risk involved. Even if only one animal has the opportunity to experience our range, then everything that we have worked towards has been worthwhile because we were able to make a positive difference for that one animal. This is why giving back to support the vital work of animal rescue organisations in our community is such an integral part of our philosophy – because we believe that together we can make a difference in the lives of animals.
